This article is five of seven in Phase I of a sort of novel, the “Pentagon of Pandemonium”, which outlines the history behind an entire universe of lore that I’ve been creating since seventh grade. (Back in 2022, way before this blog started!) I’ve only posted one article about the complex world of Magicae since I founded Inside A Wandering Mind, when I was a freshman in high school. At the time, I was given an assignment to write a short story in High School English, and I chose to write about something that was part of the lore. Since then, it’s just been something I’ve spent my free time doing— finally, after years of working, my friend Tristan and I have decided to work together to create a novel on the newest additions to our world lore that we’ve been obsessing over for years. Chapter 5 (1985) – The National Campaign
DECREE FROM THE IMPERIAL OFFICE OF THE GREENIAN CAPITAL CITY
Are you an established, legal Greenian Citizen aged 13 to 25?
If so, you may be eligible for the Greenian Trials of 1985-86 for a chance to become Vairgreene Zelena’s Successor as the leader of the greatest empire in the history of Magicae!
Information about the Successor Trials of 1985-1986
- Will include tests gauging candidates’ physical abilities to deal with rigorous exercises and routines
- Will include tests demonstrating candidates’ abilities to make resolute, final decisions in high-stakes environments with little margin for error.
- Will test candidates’ abilities to assess situations given in front of them quickly and to problem-solve with the tools they are provided.

In the next four months, a series of three preliminary exams on paper will be written to determine our official pool of competitors for the Trials. We estimate that eighty competitors will officially pass these preliminary exams to participate in the Trials proper. From there, the competitors will be put in a series of challenging, yet highly rewarding tasks that will help us determine which of our Greenian Citizens will take the responsibilities of Chief after our glorious leader Vairgreene Zelena.
Eligibility Requirements:

- You shall be registered in the Database of Free Nations, the Greenian Library of Civilians, and your local Provincial Board as a registered citizen of the Empire of Greenia in order to be allowed to join the campaign. Applications must be in all three to be eligible.
- You must fill out an application; applications will include basic information, academic performance, a supplemental essay (prompts will be provided in applications) and scores on your most recent T.M.I.M.S; students with scores of under 400 on the exams will not be allowed to participate in these trials. We apologize.
- T.M.I.M.S – Ten Most Important Magical Subjects, which is a standardized test in education across the world of Magicae. Students score anywhere between 0 and 1,000.
- Applications may be picked up at a local Imperial Center. See further provincial information for further details.
- Sign all waivers involved and fill out the application. If you are under the age of 18, your parent or guardian will need to sign an additional waiver for you.
- Turn in applications to your local Imperial Center no later than April 11th of this year. Late applications will not be considered. Pay an application fee up front of #14 (# is the symbol for Greenia’s currency)
- We estimate that about 40% of applications to the competition will be accepted into the Preliminary Exams. Each one is being reviewed thoroughly by a High-Ranking or Council-Level Greenian Scholar.
- A letter will be sent to your address on May 1st informing you of whether you have been accepted into the Preliminary Trials or not. It will also contain information about the testing site and materials that you may need to bring. Please plan for this accordingly. We will not tolerate any errors.
